Accra, Ghana – President John Dramani Mahama has signed into law the Ghana Investment Promotion Authority (GIPA) Act, replacing the former Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) Act in a move aimed at strengthening Ghana’s investment climate and attracting more local and foreign investments.
The new legislation is expected to reposition Ghana as one of Africa’s leading investment destinations by introducing reforms designed to simplify business registration processes, reduce bureaucratic bottlenecks, and create a more investor-friendly environment.
Under the new Act, the Ghana Investment Promotion Authority is mandated to facilitate, promote and monitor investments more effectively, while strengthening the country’s institutional framework for investment promotion.
The legislation also enhances investor protection by providing a stronger legal framework that offers greater certainty and confidence to both domestic and international investors.
In addition, the Authority has been tasked with supporting the growth of Ghanaian-owned enterprises by helping local businesses scale up and participate more competitively in the country’s investment ecosystem.
Government says the enactment of the GIPA Act forms part of its broader economic transformation agenda aimed at accelerating industrialization, attracting capital, creating sustainable jobs and positioning Ghana as the preferred investment hub in West Africa.
The new law is expected to play a key role in improving the ease of doing business in Ghana while supporting long-term economic growth under the government’s economic reset programme.
