Juapong, Volta Region – Member of Parliament for North Tongu and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has donated 100 chest freezers to women traders at the Juapong Market as they temporarily relocate to make way for the construction of the Mahama 24-Hour Economy Market.
The intervention is aimed at supporting the livelihoods of market women during the transition period and ensuring they continue their businesses with minimal disruption while work begins on the new market project.
Announcing the donation in a Facebook post, Mr. Ablakwa reaffirmed his commitment to the welfare and economic empowerment of his constituents.
“Yesterday I donated 100 chest freezers to Juapong market women as they are temporarily relocated to pave way for the construction of the new Mahama 24-Hour Economy Market. The welfare and empowerment of my beloved constituents remains a topmost priority,” he wrote.
The planned Mahama 24-Hour Economy Market forms part of the government’s broader agenda to modernise market infrastructure and support the implementation of the 24-Hour Economy policy by creating modern trading spaces and expanding economic opportunities for traders.
The donation of the freezers is expected to help beneficiaries preserve perishable goods, reduce post-harvest losses and improve their incomes during the construction period.
Mr. Ablakwa has consistently rolled out community development initiatives in the North Tongu Constituency, focusing on infrastructure, education, agriculture, healthcare and economic empowerment to improve the living standards of residents.
