Passion Air has announced a 10% reduction in domestic airfares across all its routes, effective June 17, 2025. This comes in response to the Ghanaian cedi’s continued appreciation against major foreign currencies, which has eased cost pressures on local airlines.

The move also aligns with calls from Transport Minister Joseph Bukari Nikpe, who recently urged domestic carriers to adjust their pricing to reflect the cedi’s recovery. He made this statement during a stakeholder breakfast hosted by the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority on June 11.

Passion Air’s action marks the first major response to that directive, suggesting a potential shift in domestic airfare pricing strategies.

In a post on its official Facebook page, the airline explained that the fare cut is meant to pass savings on to passengers while upholding service quality.

“This fare adjustment comes in response to the recent strengthening of the cedi against major currencies. At Passion Air, we are committed to ensuring our valued customers benefit directly from positive market developments.”

The airline also reaffirmed its focus on safety, affordability, and accessibility.

“As the domestic aviation landscape evolves, we remain focused on offering competitive fares that reflect these changes. While maintaining our commitment to safety and comfort, we aim to make domestic travel more accessible for all Ghanaians.”

With this move, Passion Air has positioned itself as a responsive player in Ghana’s aviation sector, potentially influencing competitors to follow suit.
