President John Mahama plans to introduce strict new limits on perks and privileges for public officials. This move aims to cut government costs and promote modest leadership.

In an exclusive interview on PM Express on Tuesday, government spokesperson Felix Ofosu Kwakye revealed the upcoming changes. He said the President is already setting an example by slashing costs at the highest levels of government.

“In the coming days, President Mahama will announce several restrictions on perks that officials enjoyed under the previous administration,” he said.

Mr. Ofosu Kwakye explained that the current administration is focused on responsible spending.

“President Mahama runs a modest government. He promised 60 ministers but appointed only 56. For presidential and support staff, we’ve reduced the number by nearly half, 336 people served in the previous administration,” he stated.

He also addressed the controversial new fuel levy, assuring the public that the government will track and report its usage with full transparency.

The President has already cancelled ex-gratia payments for executive appointees.

“Those working in the executive branch under President Mahama will no longer receive ex-gratia. Of course, he has no control over the legislature and judiciary,” Mr. Ofosu Kwakye noted.

He added that the President has banned DStv and satellite TV subscriptions at the Jubilee House. The policy will soon apply to all government institutions.

“No office in the Jubilee House is allowed to subscribe to satellite television,” he revealed. “It may sound minor, but the cost was significant.”

These steps form part of a broader cost-saving strategy. The administration aims to eliminate non-essential expenses and lead by example in modest governance.
