Gov’t disburses first-quarter allowances to chiefs nationwide

The government has released the first-quarter allowances for traditional leaders nationwide, according to Deputy Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Rita Naa Odoley Sowah.

Speaking at the launch of the 2025 Ghana Chieftaincy Awards in Accra, the Deputy Minister said the move is part of efforts to empower chiefs beyond ceremonial roles and enable them to play impactful roles in community development.

“As a ministry and under the leadership of the President, the government has ensured that the first-quarter allowances for traditional leaders have been duly disbursed,” she said.

She added that second-quarter payments are expected soon.

Commending the organizers of the awards, she called for a broader national conversation on the role of traditional leaders in modern governance.

“These awards must ignite reflection on how we can harness the cultural wisdom and strategic roles of our traditional authorities to shape a better Ghana.”

The Ministry, she noted, remains committed to supporting traditional institutions in meaningful and sustainable ways.
