We’ll resist any attempt to bring back era of the culture of silence – NPP MP

Kennedy Nyarko Osei, the Member of Parliament for Akyem Swedru, has promised that the opposition will strongly resist any attempts by the government to intimidate its critics. He stressed that every possible measure will be taken to prevent the return of a “culture of silence” in the country.

His remarks followed the recent arrest of Okatakyie Afrifa by the National Investigative Bureau. In a social media post, Osei reflected on the leadership of former President Akufo-Addo, contrasting it with the current administration.

He noted that while Akufo-Addo was criticized as a tyrant, he never used his power to oppress or intimidate his opponents, especially journalists who were critical of him during his presidency.

Osei warned that if the country isn’t cautious, it could face troubling times when political power shifts in the future. He called for a fair judicial process for individuals accused of crimes, rather than resorting to intimidation tactics.

He assured the government that the opposition would stand firm against any such attempts and protect the constitution. Osei made it clear that the opposition would do whatever necessary to prevent the return of oppressive tactics. He ended his statement with a warning, declaring full opposition to the government’s actions and its operatives.
