The Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, over the weekend paid a courtesy call on the Overlord of the Dagbaŋ Kingdom, His Royal Majesty Ya-Naa Abukari Mahama II, and the Yoo-Naa, His Royal Majesty Abdulai Yakubu Andani, in Yendi.
The visit, according to Hon. Gunu, was to express his heartfelt appreciation to the traditional leaders for their immense support, particularly for sending a distinguished delegation to stand with him during his vetting in Parliament about a year ago. The delegation from Dagbaŋ joined chiefs from Asogli, Akpini, Anlo State, Avenor, and the Volta Regional House of Chiefs, among others, in a show of solidarity and confidence which the Minister described as deeply humbling.
Family and friends accompanied Hon. James Gunu, the NDC Chairman for the Savelugu Constituency, Alhaji Sasa, the Volta Regional Zongo Caucus Coordinator of the NDC, Hajia Hawa Tahiru, and Hon. Samed Gunu, former Member of Parliament for the Savelugu Constituency.
The courtesy call followed the successful performance of the funeral rites of the late Savelugu Gunu, Gunu Yiri II, and the coronation of his successor, Alhaji Alhassan Abdulai Gunu, at the Yo-Barigu Palace. During the visit, Hon. Gunu also undertook an inspection tour of the new Gbewaa Palace, currently under construction.
He noted that the engagements reaffirmed the values of unity, respect, and continuity that bind Ghana’s traditional institutions and their people together, stressing the importance of collaboration between political leadership and traditional authorities in national development.
Hon. Gunu concluded by offering prayers for peace and prosperity, saying, “May Allah bless the reign of MBA Gunu Alhassan II with wisdom, peace, and prosperity.”
