Volta NDC alarmed by heavy Police presence at limited voter registration centers

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) leadership in the Volta Region has expressed deep concerns over the heavy police presence at the limited voter registration centres throughout the Volta Region.

According to a statement from the Volta Regional Secretariat of the NDC, with the registration period nearing its conclusion, the Electoral Commission (EC) and police authorities are yet to offer any justification for the increased Police presence at all limited voter registration centres.

The NDC’s Volta regional leadership believes that the heavy Police deployment is unwarranted and is a strategy by the ruling party and the EC to intimidate prospective registrants.

“We urge all prospective registrants not to be deterred or intimidated by the heavy presence of the police. It is crucial that every eligible individual exercises their democratic right to register and vote on December 7,” the press release stated.

The statement, signed by the Regional Secretary, Hon. James Gunu, also highlights the party’s commitment to maintaining vigilance and ensuring a fair and transparent registration process.

Additionally, the party assured the public that it remains dedicated to protecting the democratic process and urged all eligible citizens to participate in the limited voter registration exercise despite the intimidating environment.
