The University of Ghana has raised a fresh alert over a possible COVID-19 resurgence, warning of suspected and confirmed cases on campus and urging strict adherence to health protocols.

The University of Ghana Health Directorate has issued an alert over a resurgence of COVID-19 cases within and around the institution’s community.

The statement, released on Monday, June 23, 2025, urged students, staff, faculty, and visitors to observe heightened vigilance and strictly follow public health guidelines. It follows the detection of “a few suspected and confirmed cases reported in our immediate vicinity,” the Directorate said.

While specific figures were not disclosed, the university is ramping up its internal response protocols to curb potential spread across its 50,000+ student population and large workforce.

This resurgence alert comes despite a year of relative stability in Ghana’s COVID-19 situation and global easing of restrictions. The University is now activating its public health measures and has provided contact details for reporting suspected cases.

Community members are advised to maintain hygiene practices, avoid crowded indoor settings, and stay informed on updates from the Health Directorate.
