Akatsi South MCE begins renovation of abandoned ‘death-trap’ Wute CHPS Compound

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Akatsi South, Daniel Dagba has commenced the renovation of the long-abandoned Wute CHPS Compound, a facility residents have described as a “death trap” due to its deplorable state and safety risks.

When the Awake News team visited the site on Tuesday, ongoing renovation works were observed, including structural rehabilitation and clearing of overgrown surroundings, signaling a renewed commitment by the Assembly to restore the facility to full operational use.

For years, the Wute CHPS Compound had been left in a dilapidated condition, forcing residents particularly pregnant women, nursing mothers and the aged to travel long distances to access basic healthcare services. The poor state of the facility had raised serious public health and safety concerns within the community and amongst the health practitioners in the area.

According to sources at the Akatsi South Municipal Assembly, the renovation forms part of broader efforts by the MCE to revamp critical health infrastructure across the municipality, in line with the government’s agenda to improve primary healthcare delivery at the community level.

Community members who spoke to Awake News expressed relief and appreciation, describing the intervention as timely and lifesaving. They called on the Assembly to ensure the project is completed on schedule and adequately equipped to serve the growing population of Wute and surrounding communities.
