Trusting EC at your own risk – Omane Boamah warns Ghanaians

Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, the Director of Elections and I.T. of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has raised concerns about the activities of the Electoral Commission (EC), stating that the commission has lost its credibility and is no longer trustworthy.

His comments came just hours after the EC denied allegations from the NDC that the recently compiled provisional voters’ registers are riddled with anomalies. The NDC has since called for an emergency meeting with the electoral body to address these issues.

In response, the EC urged Ghanaians to disregard the opposition party’s allegations, asserting that the register is accurate and fit for purpose.

But for Dr. Boamah, an EC “that could not even work basic arithmetic (1+1 = 2) and claimed to have used CorelDraw for calculations during the 2024 Limited Voter Registration Exercise” could not be trusted.

“… this is the very Commission that allowed Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) laptops to be stolen under CCTV surveillance from their headquarters. Additionally, this is the very Electoral Commission that has allowed Biometric Verification Devices (BVDs) to be stolen.

“You trust this Electoral Commission at your own risk!,” Dr. Boamah expressed on social media.

The former Minister for Communication further reiterated his call for an investigation as he believes “unbiased forensic investigation of the EC’s conduct and IT system including the voters’ register is the way to go.”
