Former Arsenal and Ghanaian international midfielder Thomas Partey has been officially charged with multiple counts of rape by the London Metropolitan Police. The 32-year-old, now a free agent after his Arsenal contract expired, faces five rape charges and one count of sexual assault.
According to the police, the charges involve three women, with two rape counts related to one woman, three to a second, and a single sexual assault charge involving a third woman. The alleged offences occurred between 2021 and 2022.
“The charges follow an investigation by detectives, which commenced in February 2022 after police first received a report of rape,” the Metropolitan Police said in a statement. Partey is expected to appear before Westminster Magistrates’ Court on August 5.
Partey, who joined Arsenal from Atletico Madrid in 2020, had a mixed tenure at the club, struggling with injuries but making 35 appearances and scoring four goals in the 2024 season. He recently parted ways with the club and had been linked with moves to Juventus, Barcelona, and Fenerbahce.
The serious nature of the charges marks a major development in the ongoing investigation and could impact any potential transfer opportunities for the player. Legal proceedings are now underway, and Partey remains under scrutiny as the case progresses.
