‘We can thrill the fans’: Coach Wück hopes Germany lands Euro 2029

Germany would be a great host of the women’s Euro 2029 tournament, national team coach Christian Wück has said ahead of Wednesday’s decision by the ruling body UEFA.

“We have the stadiums, we have the spectators. We can thrill the fans with our game, and I hope it stays like this for a long time,” Wück said between his team’s two Nations League final legs against Spain.

UEFA’s executive committee will select the host at its meeting on Wednesday. The other candidates are Poland and a joint bid from Denmark and Sweden.

Wück said he hoped that UEFA had taken notice of the “phenomenal” atmosphere at Germany’s last home games and added that landing the hosting rights would “mean a lot for the whole of women’s football in Germany.”

National team full back Franziska Kett said that playing a home tournament is “the dream of every player.

“We have the best conditions in Germany. We have nice stadiums, we have big stadiums and many spectators,” Kett said.

Germany aims to stage the Euros in the eight cities of Cologne, Dortmund, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Hanover, Leipzig, Munchen and Wolfsburg.

Germany hosted the Euros in 1989 as a Final Four event and again in 2001 when eight teams played. The tournament now features 16 teams.
