“This Win Shows What I Can Do” – Prince Owusu After Kotoko Win

Asante Kotoko’s interim coach, Prince Owusu, is on cloud nine after guiding the Porcupine Warriors to their first win since he reassumed the role.

Kotoko bounced back from their frustrating 1-0 defeat to rivals Hearts of Oak at home to record a comfortable 2-0 victory over struggling Young Apostles on matchday 23 of the Ghana Premier League on Sunday.

The Porcupine Warriors scored through Owusu Johnson and an own goal in each half, ensuring the Kumasi-based outfit maintained fourth spot in the league with 38 points, trailing behind by seven with the leaders Medeama SC, who have 45 points.

The win not only mounts pressure on the top three clubs; Medeama SC, Gold Stars, and Hearts of Oak  but also revives the Porcupine Warriors that their hope for the title has not been ditched..

According to Coach Owusu, the win makes a strong statement on his prowess and what he can do if he is handed the job permanently.

Speaking after the victory, Owusu said though they were pressured to deliver and win back the trust of the fans, he was elated it paid off.

“It means a lot to me. This is my first win, and it makes people recognize what I can do. Yes, there was pressure. The players felt it themselves,” he told 3Sports.

He added that players adhered and played according to his instructions, adding that they were mentally tough to overcome the pressure and focus on winning the game.

“So we spoke to them and asked them to put the pressure behind them and focus on how we wanted to play. They listened, and it worked perfectly for us today. Once we scored the two goals, everything became clear in our performance. So we are okay with it,” he added.

Owusu serves as the stand-in gaffer for Asante Kotoko after the club parted ways with Karim Zito in January.

He served as one of the assistant coaches under the departed Karim Zito.
