Telecel Ghana is reviewing a legal suit filed by Madam Faustina Djagbele Abbey, who claims the telecom company used her photograph without permission in a promotional campaign.
The image was reportedly featured in advertisements for Telecel’s ‘Red Save’ digital savings product, appearing on social media and other digital platforms.
Madam Abbey argues that this usage occurred without her knowledge or consent.
In a brief public statement, Telecel said it is taking the issue seriously and is “reviewing the details of this claim to establish the facts.”
The company added, “We take matters of privacy, imagery consent, and intellectual property seriously and appreciate the public’s understanding as we resolve this.”
Filed on May 23, 2025, by lawyer Bernard Owiredu Donkor of Thompson Law Consult, the suit claims the unauthorized exposure violated Abbey’s right to privacy and amounted to an abuse of her image rights.
Abbey further alleges that the publicity created the impression that she had gained significant wealth, leading to strained personal relationships and emotional distress.
The case has reignited public debate on corporate responsibility and the need for clear consent before using individuals’ likenesses, especially in an era where digital content spreads rapidly.
Telecel Ghana remains one of the country’s major telecom providers.
