South Dayi Students Excel at AIRTAD 2026 Robotics Competition

Students from the South Dayi Constituency in the Volta Region have emerged as the Overall Best with the Most Innovative Project at the 2026 Annual Impact Round Table and Robotics Competition (AIRTAD).

The success followed support from the Member of Parliament for South Dayi and Majority Chief Whip, Rockson-Nelson Kwami Etse Dafeamekpor, and the District Chief Executive for South Dayi, Courage Kwame Kokroko.

On Monday, March 2, 2026, Hon. Kokroko, on behalf of himself and the MP, welcomed participants of the programme to his office at the South Dayi District Assembly and commended the students and their mentors for their commitment to innovation and technological development.

The Annual Impact Round Table and Robotics Competition (AIRTAD) is an annual programme held in February to test students’ creativity, innovation, and programming skills in Yamoranza model laboratories across the country.

The South Dayi Constituency Basic School team represented the Volta Region in Accra and competed against participants from other regions in Ghana and international representatives from The Gambia, Senegal, and Liberia.

During the competition, the team presented a project on a Smart Green Cycle Farm at Academic City and advanced to the finals, where they participated in a live project-building contest at the Legon Cedi Conference Hall.

Their project featured a piezoelectric energy generation system integrated with a solar power management system, which impressed the judges and secured them the Overall Best Award for the Most Innovative Project.

The team also won the Best Centre Manager Award as First Runner-Up and the Most Sustainable Lab Award as First Runner-Up, earning three awards in total.

The students who participated in the competition were Kay Princess, Budu Blessing, Amenya Bless, and Ocloo Brain.

Mr. Desmond E. Dzitorwoko and Mr. Clifford Gowu served as centre managers, while Mr. Gaddafi Kwesi Baako of the Ghana Education Service supervised and coordinated the activities of the centre managers and students.

Madam Sussie Agbezah, representing the South Dayi District Assembly, commended the students, supervisors, and centre managers for their dedication and urged the district leadership to modernise the robotics laboratory and procure additional equipment to support the programme.

The centre managers expressed appreciation to the MP and the DCE for their support and appealed for further assistance to expand and decentralise the initiative.

Some laboratory equipment, including a laptop and a cash prize, were presented during the event. Hon. Kokroko pledged to work with Hon. Dafeamekpor to address pending issues and further strengthen science and technology education in the constituency.
