Real Madrid have secured the signing of Argentine wonderkid Franco Mastantuono from River Plate in a €45 million (£38.5m) deal, setting a new transfer record for the Argentine club.
Mastantuono, just 17, recently became the youngest player to feature in a competitive match for Argentina. He made his debut in a 1-0 World Cup qualifying win over Chile, coming on as a late substitute.
The attacking midfielder has impressed over the last two seasons with River Plate’s first team. He also holds the record as the youngest scorer in the fierce Superclásico derby against Boca Juniors.
His six-year contract with Real Madrid will begin on August 14, the day he turns 18.
Mastantuono becomes Real Madrid’s third signing this summer, following the arrivals of Trent Alexander-Arnold from Liverpool and Dean Huijsen from Bournemouth.
