Producer Price Inflation (PPI) dropped sharply to 5.9% in June 2025, its lowest level in more than seven months, according to new data from the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS).

This represents a 4.2 percentage point drop from May’s 10.1%, and a significant 19.7 percentage point decline from June 2024’s 25.6%.

This marks the fifth straight monthly decline, reflecting a broader easing of cost pressures across major sectors of the economy.

Monthly data showed producer deflation of 1.4% between May and June, indicating that, on average, producers earned less for their goods and services compared to the previous month.

Two key sectors, Mining and Quarrying and Manufacturing, drove the downward trend. Mining inflation fell steeply from 13.7% to 6.5%, while manufacturing saw a drop from 9.8% to 7.6%.

The Transport sector recorded deeper deflation, falling from -4.8% in May to -7.0% in June. Similarly, the hospitality sector (hotels and restaurants) saw a sharp reversal, from a 6.5% rise to a 2.7% decline.

Dr. Alhassan Iddrisu, Government Statistician, advised businesses to revise their pricing strategies in response to the declining cost pressures.

“Falling costs bring opportunity, but tighter margins too. Stay ahead by innovating, not just adjusting prices,” he stated.

He also encouraged the government to maintain macroeconomic stability and incentivize sectors like mining and manufacturing to support jobs and drive growth.

To consumers, GSS recommended greater awareness in spending:

“Buy smart, question markups, and support brands that pass savings on.”
