Police rubbish claims IGP ordered detention of officers who arrested judge

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has come out to strongly deny claims that four police officers were arrested and detained for trying to stop a judge involved in a road traffic offence.

Recently, some media platforms reported that Inspector Godwin Dey, Inspector Francis Adjei, Sergeant Daasebre Oti Boateng, and Corporal Jonah Adjubulisah were punished after they stopped the vehicle of a judge, Her Honor Mrs. Angela Attachi, during a routine road traffic operation in December 2024.

According to those reports, the judge allegedly ignored the officers, left her car in the middle of the road, and left in another vehicle.

The police officers then towed the vehicle to the Adenta Police Station to press charges. It was also claimed that after pressure from senior officers, the matter was dropped, and the four officers were later invited to the CID headquarters, where they were detained on orders from the Inspector General of Police (IGP).

However, in a press statement issued by the CID, the department clarified that no such arrests or detentions had taken place.

They described the reports as completely false and urged the public to disregard them.

The CID also cautioned media houses to verify their facts before publishing sensitive stories, especially those involving the police.

They said misleading stories can damage the image of the service and create unnecessary tension in the country.

The police are encouraging the public to rely on official sources for accurate information and avoid spreading falsehoods.
