The Bono East Regional Police Command has handed over a bag containing GHC 85,000.00 to its rightful owner after it was discovered along the Techiman–Kumasi Highway.
According to the Police, the incident occurred on February 14, 2026, at about 4:20 a.m., when officers on duty at a snap check point noticed a bag lying by the roadside, suspected to have fallen from a moving vehicle. The bag had the name “Ofori” and a contact number written on it.
The duty team, led by Inspector George Appiah and three other officers, retrieved the bag and upon inspection realized it contained a substantial amount of cash. The officers promptly forwarded the bag to the Regional Command for further checks and verification.
Police contacted the number found on the bag, which led to a response from Mr. Stephen Ofori, a 53-year-old businessman from Ashtown in Kumasi. Mr. Ofori later reported to the checkpoint and identified himself as the owner.
He explained that the money, totaling GHC 85,000.00, was being transported from GCB Bank in Wa to Kumasi aboard a commercial vehicle when the bag was accidentally lost in transit.
The cash was counted and verified in the presence of the claimant and confirmed to be the stated amount. After satisfactory verification and explanation, the Police officially released the money to Mr. Ofori.
The Bono East Regional Police Command commended the professionalism and integrity of the officers involved, as well as community members who assisted in drawing attention to the found property.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to honesty, public trust, and the protection of citizens’ property.
