A pro-NDC campus group, Tertiary Education Institutions Network (TEIN) at the University of Professional Studies-Accra (UPSA) has lashed out at the President of the Students Representative Council (SRC), Mr. Peter MwinZumah accusing him of neglecting the plights of students in the University.
At a press conference yesterday, the TEIN General Secretary, Mr. Salvius Beni, said “it has now become unequivocally true and empirically doubtless that the President has put himself on an auto-pilot reactionary mechanism, such that anytime students raised genuine concerns about challenge they face on campus, the President pays a “devil may care” attitude towards the plight of these vulnerable students”
According to Mr. Beni, the late students registration penalties that previous SRC Presidents fought over, this SRC administration led by Mr. MwinZumah seems to careless as the penalty took effect from October 7, 2019 which he said was just a month after school resumed leaving over One Thousand (1000) falling victims.
Mr. Beni revealed that, despite students paying GHc40.00 as SRC dues and “about twice of that as medical levy”, yet their washrooms particularly, LBC and AB blocks are left in a very deplorable states.
“We pay Ghc40.00 as SRC due and about twice of that as medical levy yet this what our figureheads and representatives in the SRC have got to offer us. This can only be described as grave unconcernedness and incessant Lack of Sense of Leadership in the SRC as it is nicely carved and imbibed in the theme of this press briefing”
He has also accused the President of the SRC of conspiring with the Clerk of the SRC General Assembly to call and preside over a General Assembly meeting to approve additional an amount GHc25,000.00 for the just ended Akwaba Weeks at the blindside of the Speaker of the General Assembly. This he said violates Article 4 (7)(a) and (b) of the SRC Constitution.
Mr. Beni has also accused the SRC President of trying to sabotage the External Affairs Secretariat of the UPSA in the just ended National Union of Ghana Student’s (NUGS) congress but failed.
Awake News has reached out to the SRC President for his response to the allegations leveled against him but he said “I have nothing to say”.
