The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced it will open nominations on July 29, 2025, for members interested in contesting the party’s 2028 presidential primaries.
The announcement was made by the party’s National Organiser, Henry Nana Boakye (Nana B), during an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen.
He explained that the move complies with the party’s constitutional requirement to give at least six months’ notice before holding primaries. The presidential primaries are scheduled for January 31, 2026.
Several key figures have already indicated interest in the flagbearer race, including:
- Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, former Education Minister and MP for Bosomtwe
- Bryan Acheampong, MP for Abetifi
- Kennedy Agyapong, former MP for Assin Central
- Kwabena Agyepong, former General Secretary of the NPP
Though he has yet to make a formal declaration, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the party’s 2024 presidential candidate and former Vice President, is widely seen as the leading contender.
The NPP’s flagbearer race is expected to be fiercely competitive, with aspirants positioning themselves to lead the party into the next general elections.
