NPP disqualifies Oti Regional Youth Organizer aspirant for criticizing Bawumia

Dambai, Ghana – The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has disqualified Mr. Gbande Nabin Yussif from contesting the position of Oti Regional Youth Organizer after a disciplinary committee found him guilty of misconduct, leaving Mr. Prince Kwadwo Amanor as the sole qualified candidate for the position.

The decision was announced by the NPP Oti Regional Elections Committee following the completion of the vetting process for aspirants ahead of the party’s regional executive elections.

According to the Committee, Mr. Yussif’s disqualification stemmed from a formal petition containing four allegations of misconduct. The Committee stated that the petition was duly served on the aspirant, while both the petitioner and Mr. Yussif were afforded the opportunity to present their cases in line with the principles of fairness and due process.

During the hearing, Mr. Yussif admitted to three of the four allegations brought against him.

One of the admitted offences involved publishing offensive and unprintable comments directed at the NPP’s 2028 presidential candidate and former Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, in the comment section of one of the latter’s official Facebook posts.

The Elections Committee held that such conduct was inconsistent with the standards of discipline, loyalty and responsibility expected of persons seeking leadership positions within the party.

It further ruled that Mr. Yussif’s admitted actions breached Article 3(4)(1)(a), (b) and (d) of the NPP Constitution, which enjoins members to uphold the party’s values, maintain discipline and refrain from conduct likely to bring the party into disrepute.

Although Mr. Yussif expressed remorse during the proceedings and indicated his willingness to publicly apologise to Dr. Bawumia and the party, the Committee concluded that the gravity of the misconduct rendered him unsuitable to contest the position of Regional Youth Organiser.

The decision means Prince Kwadwo Amanor now remains the only qualified candidate in the race for the Oti Regional Youth Organiser position, subject to the party’s electoral processes.
