“My Friends Lured Me into Politics”- Samini Reveals

Ghanaian reggae and dancehall artist Emmanuel Andrews Samini, known as Samini in the creative circles, says his decision to go into student politics was not his, but that of his friends who lured him into that.

According to the multiple-award-winning musician, he was not the student who had anything to do with the political landscape, describing himself as one who will make time for entertainment.

Samini said though there was no interest from the onset, and he barely showed up to do his campaigns, he has no regrets after he ventured into student politics because it has shaped him into becoming a worthy statesman.

“I was lured and drawn into politics by mates because I was not on campus to do any of that. If you went to senior or junior high school with me, you will know that I am not the guy that is looking for School Prefect (SP); I am the guy that jumped over the wall to other schools to jam. They told me that it is a good opportunity to learn what it takes to be in politics and also a good stepping stone should you ever think of taking up anything political,” he said on GTV’s Breakfast Show.

According to the ‘Odo’ hitmaker, he said that where he hails from, the decision to take up any leadership role in politics will help him, considering the fact that he is an ardent reader and has not stopped availing himself of worthiness.

“And I believe from where I come from, the Upper West Region is one of the most deprived regions in Ghana, and should I step up to serve, it will help. For now you never say never, but we keep developing ourselves, and I have not stopped reading and making myself a statesman and appointment-worthy. Eventually when the time comes and you are called to the table, play your role properly, take your share, and go home,” he concluded.

Samini graduated from the Ghana Institute of Public Administration (GIMPA) in 2023 with a bachelor’s degree in project management, where he served as the Student Representative Council (SRC) president in 2023.

He can boast of seven albums to his credit, having released his eighth in February this year.
