Minority leader warns gov’t against the use of state security to intimidate opponents

The Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo Markin, has condemned the government’s use of state machinery to intimidate political opponents. His remarks follow the arrest of Okatakyie Afrifa, who was detained after taking exams at GIMPA on March 19, 2025.

In a tweet, Afenyo Markin expressed concern over the negative impact such actions have on the country’s democracy, urging that these practices must be stopped immediately.

He also pointed to the earlier case of Kwame Baffoe, known as Abronye, as another example of state security being used to target political opponents.

Afenyo Markin’s tweet read, “It started with Abronye, now it’s Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah. The NDC government must show tolerance! Using state security to target political opponents is dangerous for our democracy! Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah should be released without delay.”
