Adwoa Safo exposes alleged corruption in School Feeding Programme

Adwoa Safo, former Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection, has made shocking allegations of corruption within Ghana’s School Feeding Programme, calling for immediate government intervention.

In an interview on Wontumi TV, Safo described the corruption within the sector as “serious” and urged the current administration to take swift action. She acknowledged the vision of former President John Agyekum Kufuor for the programme but expressed concern over how it has been distorted.

Recalling her time as Gender Minister, Safo revealed that President Akufo-Addo had initially instructed her to conduct an audit of the programme before any funds could be released.

However, she faced resistance from several key officials, particularly one who ignored her calls and later claimed to have influential government connections.

Safo traced much of the corruption to the Central Region. However, after submitting her audit report, she claims the president denied ever requesting it and ordered her to set it aside. “That’s where my problems began,” Safo stated, implying that her efforts to expose the mismanagement led to a rift with the government.

Her revelations have reignited concerns over the transparency and management of the School Feeding Programme, which was originally intended to provide nutritious meals to public school children but is now marred by accusations of corruption.
