Energy Minister John Jinapor is facing sharp criticism from the Minority in Parliament over his recent comments about Ghana’s power sector. Opposition lawmakers accuse him of chasing media headlines instead of tackling the ongoing energy challenges.
At a recent workshop hosted by Parliament’s Energy Committee, Minister Jinapor revealed that Ghana’s reserves of liquid fuel for thermal power plants are running low. However, the Minority warns that such public statements could spark unnecessary panic among the public and damage investor confidence.
Speaking to journalists on May 19, George Kwame Aboagye, Ranking Member of the Energy Committee, expressed serious concerns about the Minister’s communication style. He highlighted several unresolved issues within the sector and called on Jinapor to drop what he called “media theatrics” and focus on stabilizing Ghana’s power supply.
This latest clash highlights rising tensions as Ghana continues to battle frequent power outages and increasing operational costs in power generation.
