Minority Caucus Tours Cocoa-Growing Areas in Eastern Region

The Minority Caucus in Parliament has commenced a tour of cocoa-growing communities in the Eastern Region in solidarity with farmers following the recent reduction in the producer price of cocoa.

The tour, led by the Minority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, is aimed at engaging cocoa farmers and assessing the impact of the government’s decision on their livelihoods.

Mr. Annoh-Dompreh said the visit would afford members of the Caucus the opportunity to interact directly with farmers, listen to their concerns and assure them of the Minority’s support.

He noted that cocoa remains a critical pillar of Ghana’s economy and a major source of income for thousands of households, stressing the need for policies that protect farmers’ welfare and sustain productivity.

The Minority Caucus is expected to hold community engagements and stakeholder meetings during the tour.

The government recently announced a downward adjustment in the producer price of cocoa, a move that has generated public debate within the cocoa sector.
