The Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative, Abla Dzifa Gomashie has announced that government has encouraged all Ghanaians and friends of Ghana, home and abroad to dedicate every Wednesday to the wearing of Fugu (Batakari) in all its diverse forms, designs and expressions, complemented by its distinctive and beautiful accessories.
In a press statement signed by the sector minister and released on Tuesday, February 10,the initiative seeks to deepen national cultural awareness, affirm Ghana’s identity and projects the nation’s heritage with pride to the world.
Also, beyond its cultural significance, the initiative is expected to generate far-reaching social and economic benefits, including the empowerment of local weavers, designers, artisans, traders across the value chain, as well as expanded business, employment, and commercial opportunities nationwide.
It concluded that government hopes that this collective embrace of Fugu will strengthen national unity, stimulate the creative economy, and serve as a powerful symbol of Ghana’s cultural confidence and self-expression.
The internet went crazy when President Mahama wore Fugu during a public gathering in Zambia some days ago.
Zambians took to social media to mock the outfit, describing it as a ‘blouse’.
With constructive criticism and education from Ghanaians, Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema, has made arrangements to import Fugu from Ghana to his country as a way of promoting and strengthening ties between the two countries.
However, former beauty queen, Hamamat Montia has now added another prestigious title to her name as she has been officially unveiled as Ghana’s Shea Butter Ambassador.
The announcement was made at a special ceremony at the Ministry of Tourism, Culture & Creative Arts in Accra on Tuesday, February 10 where she was honored with a citation recognizing her remarkable contribution to Ghana’s shea butter industry, culture, and women’s empowerment.
Hamamat’s work received international attention when many fans watched as American social media streamer IShowSpeed visited her Shea Butter Museum in January this year, a moment that went viral and symbolized the global interest in Ghanaian tradition and entrepreneurship.
