The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has firmly distanced the government from claims that approval has been granted for the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) to undertake overseas licence registration and renewal services, describing the reports as unfounded and not backed by any official policy directive.

In a press release issued on Thursday, the Ministry said its attention had been drawn to a viral media headline suggesting that DVLA officials had been authorised to travel to countries including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Germany to provide licensing services for Ghanaians in the diaspora.

The Ministry categorically denied granting any such approval or issuing directives to Ghana’s diplomatic missions abroad to facilitate the purported exercise.

“The Ministry has neither issued a directive to our diplomatic missions abroad nor granted approval to any entity for such an arrangement,” the statement emphasised.

It stressed that it was not aware of any new government policy supporting the reported initiative and had no record of any formal engagement, financial commitment, or administrative clearance relating to the alleged plan.

The strong rebuttal by the Ministry underscores government’s resolve to protect institutional integrity and ensure that public policy announcements follow due process and official communication channels.

The Ministry further assured the public of its commitment to transparency, accountability, and prudent management of public affairs, noting that any legitimate policy affecting Ghanaians abroad would be communicated through the appropriate state institutions.

The clarification is expected to calm public debate and reaffirm government’s position on maintaining strict oversight over international service arrangements involving state agencies.

Observers say the swift response reflects a broader effort by government to counter misinformation and reinforce public confidence in official state processes.
