2026 GETFund Formula Set for Parliamentary Review

Government has finalised a proposed formula for the 2026 GETFund Allocation Framework, following a high-level meeting involving key stakeholders in the education sector.

The meeting, convened earlier today, brought together the Hon. Deputy Minister for Education, the Chair of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Education, the Administrator of the GETFund, and the Management of the Ministry of Education to deliberate on the proposed framework.

The discussions were described as focused, constructive and forward-looking, with participants reaching a strong consensus on the way forward.

The 2026 framework is expected to mark the beginning of a reset and the full operationalisation of a revised allocation formula designed to reflect the policy direction of President John Dramani Mahama.

According to sources at the meeting, the proposed formula is anchored on the principles of transparency, fairness and strategic alignment with national education priorities. It seeks to ensure equitable distribution of resources while strengthening accountability in the utilisation of GETFund resources.

Particular emphasis has been placed on establishing a dedicated funding source for Special Needs Education and disability support across the country. Stakeholders noted, this is is in line with government’s broader commitment to inclusive education and the expansion of opportunities for persons with disabilities.

The framework also makes specific provision toward fulfilling President Mahama’s pledge to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to complete and adequately resource the KNUST Teaching Hospital to support healthcare training and service delivery.

The proposed 2026 GETFund Allocation Formula is expected to be presented to Parliament tomorrow for consideration.

Officials say the collaborative engagement underscores the strong and strategic partnership between the Ministry of Education, Parliament and GETFund in advancing the government’s transformative agenda for the education sector.
