President John Dramani Mahama has announced an ambitious plan to construct six modern sports stadia in Ghana’s newly created regions.
Speaking during his “Thank You Tour” in the Western North Region, Mahama said the initiative, led by the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, is aimed at bridging the infrastructure gap in underserved areas and promoting nationwide access to quality sporting facilities.
“Modern sports stadia will be built in the six newly created regions, as well as in other regions that currently lack such infrastructure,” he said, addressing traditional leaders and residents.
The regions to benefit from the initiative include Western North, Oti, North East, Bono East, Savannah, and Ahafo, areas created following the 2018 referendum that expanded Ghana’s administrative regions from ten to sixteen.
Mahama emphasized that the project aligns with a broader agenda to decentralize development and nurture sporting talent across all regions of Ghana.
