Mahama launches One Million Coders Program

President John Dramani Mahama has officially launched the One Million Coders Program in Accra on Wednesday, April 16, delivering on a campaign promise made ahead of the 2024 general elections.

Describing the initiative as more than a pledge, Mahama positioned it as a strategic move to transform Ghana into a digital leader on the continent.

“We’re not just launching a program, we’re laying the foundation for a blue economy,” he declared. “This is a bold signal that Ghana is ready to lead in the digital age. To our youth, our communities, and the world: the future is here, and we intend to help shape it.”

Mahama emphasized that the program is a cornerstone of his “Reset Ghana” agenda, aimed at equipping citizens with essential digital skills for 21st-century jobs and innovation.

The launch event brought together key figures from the tech industry, government, and development partners.

Minister for Communications, Digital Innovation and Technologies, Sam Nartey George, echoed the urgency and impact of the program.

“We are at a defining moment in Ghana’s digital transformation. This initiative is not just necessary, it’s urgent. The One Million Coders Programme is a call to action to create sustainable jobs, boost innovation, and invest in our human capital,” he said.

George added that the program would harness science, technology, and innovation as practical tools for inclusive growth, not just as aspirational terms.
