Mr. Kwesi Botchway Jnr has filed a Right to Information (RTI) request seeking a detailed breakdown of the one million jobs reportedly created by the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS).
The request also seeks clarification on the GH¢600 million allegedly recovered under the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) initiative by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), as referenced by President John Dramani Mahama during his 2026 State of the Nation Address (SONA).
According to Mr. Botchway, the RTI application is intended to promote transparency and accountability in governance by enabling the public to access detailed data supporting the figures cited in the President’s address.
The request specifically asks the GSS to provide a sector-by-sector breakdown of the one million jobs, including methodology and time frame used in arriving at the figure.
Additionally, it calls on EOCO to furnish comprehensive details on the reported GH¢600 million ORAL recovery, including sources of the recovered funds and the current status of the amounts retrieved.
Mr. Botchway noted that access to such information would strengthen public confidence in official data and reinforce the principles of open governance.
The RTI Act, 2019 (Act 989), guarantees the right of citizens to access information held by public institutions, subject to exemptions provided by law.
