Head Coach of Asante Kotoko, Abdul Karim Zito says he was very much perplexed after his side succumbed to a 3-1 defeat against Heart of Lions.

The Porcupine Warriors were aiming to make it two consecutive wins, and their fourth in eight games after their pleasant 3-0 triumph over Basake Holy Stars last weekend.

However, that party never materialized as they managed to pick a consolation far from home.

Addressing the media after that humiliation, Zito who revealed his lads prepared ahead of the encounter expressed shock at the end of proceedings.

“This is football for you, and I was not expecting this score because seriously we prepared well for this game. Most especially from the set pieces they scored the two goals from, we have been practicing how to defend and how to attack these set pieces. Maybe today is on of those days in football, and I am very surprised with the result.” He said.

Quizzed on why the attacking force of Kotoko failed to come to the party, Zito attributed that to the fact that the forward line failed to play to his instructions.

“Today when you look at our wild wingers, they did not operate like I wanted them to do. They were not consistent until I made some substitutions. Goals are easily score through the flanks, but today my wingers did not perform well and that brought all these issues,” He added.

Heart of Lions scored first through Seedorf Asante in the 35th minute before Ali Fawzi made it 2-0 before the stroke of first half.

Skipper Samba O’Neil reduced the deficit with a decent goal from the penalty spot to make it 2-1.

Michael Ephson registered Lions third in the 72nd minute to seal a comfortable win for the home team.

Asante Kotoko after the defeat still maintained their third spot on the league log with 35 points, trailing leaders Medeama SC with seven points as they host second-placed Aduana Stars in their Match Day 22 fixture.
