I’m NPP but for Dr. Amoakohene, am considering NDC – Kumasi trader

The once “no-go-zone” area for the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) is gradually turning into a fertile ground for the party hence sending fear and panic in the camp of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) that considered the region as their “world bank”.

This is seen by the rising numbers the NDC has been getting in the general elections since 1992. The most impressive of all is the result of the just-ended December 2024 elections when the NDC got a whopping 33.47 percent of the votes, the highest in the history of the NDC in the Fourth Republic.

NDC Ashanti Region Votes since 1992

  • 1992 – 32.9% with NPP – 60.5%
  • 1996 – 32.78% with NPP – 65.81%
  • 2000 – 22.15% with NPP – 75.06%
  • 2004 – 24.71% with NPP – 73.97%
  • 2008 – 26.60% with NPP – 72.01%
  • 2012 – 28.25% with NPP – 70.98%
  • 2016 – 23.32% with NPP – 75.98%
  • 2020 – 26.50% with NPP – 72.79%
  • 2024 – 33.47% with NPP – 63.98%

Apart from the giant stride in increasing the vote in 2024, the appointment of 40year old medical doctor, Frank Amoakohene as the Ashanti Regional Minister by President John Dramani Mahama is further deepening the NDC’s influence and roots on the Ashanti soil.

The fact remains that Dr. Amoakohene’s humility, proactiveness in solving problems, resolving issues, and connecting with the youth base using social media are contributing greatly to the NDC’s near 50/50 share of Ashanti’s pollution with the NPP.

This video in which one trader at the PZ Kumasi sends heartwarming messages to the vibrant regional minister speaks volumes about the impact of the minister on the lives of the ordinary people in his jurisdiction and by extension, Ghana.

In the above video, the woman wishing to meet Dr. Amoakohene has admitted that she is a member sympathizer of the NPP but the performance of the Regional Minister so far making her confused as to whether she should remain NPP or join the NDC.

She further encouraged the youngest Regional Minister to continue his good work to impact more lives.

With this growing goodwill, if the NDC performs very well under the leadership of President John Mahama, the Ashanti Region is likely to fall near 50/50 between the NPP and the NDC.
