The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Export-Import Bank, Sylvester Mensah, has commended the ingenuity of young Ghanaian innovators after test-driving a mini-tractor assembled by students of the Dabokpa Technical Institute at the Ghana AgroTech Fair 2026.
The symbolic drive, which drew attention from participants and exhibitors, highlighted the growing role of technical and vocational education in advancing Ghana’s agricultural mechanisation agenda.
Mr. Mensah praised the students for their creativity and practical skills, noting that such innovations are crucial to transforming the agriculture sector, particularly in improving productivity among smallholder farmers.
He stressed the importance of investing in local solutions and supporting young talents who are developing affordable technologies tailored to Ghana’s farming needs.
The EXIM Bank CEO further reiterated the Bank’s commitment to promoting agro-industrialisation through financing, capacity building, and partnerships that empower local manufacturers and agribusinesses.
Students of the institute expressed excitement over the recognition, stating that the mini-tractor project forms part of efforts to develop cost-effective machinery that can be easily adopted by rural farmers.
The Ghana AgroTech Fair 2026 brought together stakeholders across the agricultural value chain, including policymakers, researchers, financial institutions, and innovators, to showcase emerging technologies aimed at boosting food production and sustainability.
Observers say initiatives like these could help reduce Ghana’s dependence on imported agricultural machinery while creating employment opportunities for the youth.
