Accra, Ghana – The Commercial Division of the High Court in Accra has granted an order authorizing police assistance to enable Cola Holdings Limited and its appointed Receiver, Nii Amanor Dodoo, to take possession of the No. 1 Oxford Street Hotel in Osu.
The order was issued by Justice Samuel Faraday Johnson on July 21, 2026, following an application by Cola Holdings and the Receiver, who informed the court that they had been unable to peacefully assume possession of the property.
According to court documents, the applicants sought the intervention of the police to facilitate the enforcement of the court’s directives after encountering resistance in taking control of the hotel.
The application was opposed by Kensington Residential Partners 1 Limited, through one of its directors, Nana Kwame Bediako, popularly known as Cheddar. However, the court dismissed the objections raised by the company and granted the application.
The ruling paves the way for the Receiver, with the support of the Ghana Police Service, to take possession of the hotel in accordance with the court’s order.
The latest development forms part of an ongoing commercial dispute involving the ownership and control of the No. 1 Oxford Street Hotel, one of Accra’s prominent hospitality properties.
The current ruling on the Police assistance order concerns only the Receiver’s application for police assistance and does not determine the merits of any pending appeals or other proceedings between the parties
Who owns No. 1 Oxford Street Hotel?
Based on the publicly available information, the exact number of shares held by Nana Kwame Bediako (Cheddar) in Kensington Residential Partners 1 Limited (KRP 1) is not known.
However, Nana Kwame Bediako has stated that the shareholders of KRP 1 are himself and Azad Cola, the owner of Cola Holdings Limited.
But according to the International Finance Corporation (IFC), which financed the No. 1 Oxford Street project, described KRP 1 as a 50:50 joint venture between Kwarleyz Group, controlled by Nana Kwame Bediako; and Cola Group, controlled by the Cola family.
The IFC documentation indicates that Kwarleyz Group owns 50% of KRP 1, while Cola Group owns the other 50%. Since Kwarleyz Group is controlled by Nana Kwame Bediako, he is effectively the controlling owner of that 50% stake, but the records available to the public do not disclose the total number of issued shares;how many shares Kwarleyz Group holds; and whether those shares are held directly by Nana Kwame Bediako or through one or more corporate entities.
