Andy Appiah-Kubi, lawyer for NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako (Chairman Wontumi), says EOCO has denied his client access to family while in detention.
In an interview on JoyNews (May 30, 2025), Appiah-Kubi said he needs official approval from EOCO to visit his client and must be accompanied by an EOCO officer, raising concerns over due process and human rights violations.
“His phones have been seized, and he can’t contact anyone. Even his family has no access,” he said.
Chairman Wontumi was granted bail set at GHC50 million with two sureties (both to be justified), terms his legal team considers “unfair.” They’ve filed for a bail condition variation and are finalizing documentation for the second surety.
He has since been transferred from EOCO to the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) as his legal team pushes for his release.
