The Catholic Health Service Trust (CHST-GH), in collaboration with the Keta-Akatsi Catholic Diocese, is set to commemorate the 34th World Day of the Sick alongside its Best Workers’ Award Ceremony at St. Anthony Catholic Hospital in Dzodze.
The event, scheduled for Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at 9:00 a.m., will bring together health professionals, clergy, and members of the public to reflect on compassionate healthcare delivery and recognise outstanding staff contributions within the Catholic health system.
This year’s celebration is on the theme:
“The Compassion of the Samaritan: Loving by Bearing Another’s Pain” (Romans 5:5), a message that underscores the Church’s commitment to holistic care, empathy, and solidarity with the sick and vulnerable.
The World Day of the Sick, observed annually by the Catholic Church worldwide, highlights the importance of pastoral and medical attention to the ill while encouraging healthcare workers to model Christ-like compassion in their service.
Organisers say the Dzodze gathering will not only offer prayers and spiritual reflection for patients but will also serve as a platform to acknowledge the dedication, sacrifice, and professionalism of health workers whose efforts sustain quality care across Catholic health facilities.
As part of the programme, deserving staff of St. Anthony Catholic Hospital and affiliated institutions will be honoured during the Best Workers’ Awards segment. The awards are intended to motivate excellence, promote ethical service, and celebrate individuals who demonstrate exceptional commitment to patient care.
The Catholic Health Service remains a key partner in Ghana’s healthcare delivery, particularly in underserved communities, where mission facilities continue to provide accessible and values-driven medical services.
The upcoming event is expected to reinforce collaboration between faith and health institutions while renewing the call for humane, patient-centred care.
