BREAKING: Ex-NSB Boss Kwabena Adu-Boahene remanded for 7 days

A High Court in Accra has remanded Kwabena Adu-Boahene, the former head of the National Signals Bureau, into seven days of prison after a hearing on Friday, May 2, 2025.

The decision was made in response to Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine’s request that the accused be remanded, citing intelligence that suggested Adu-Boahene had tried to obstruct a crucial prosecution witness in the ongoing case of alleged theft.

Samuel Atta Akyea, the defense lawyer, vehemently denied the allegation, casting doubt on his client’s capacity to sway the witness as well as the reliability of the intelligence.

In order to assess the intelligence evidence in-camera before rendering a final conclusion, the presiding judge first postponed the decision.

The court ruled that Adu-Boahen should be detained for a week until additional evaluations are conducted after hearing arguments and examining preliminary evidence.

The judge claims that this strikes a balance between allowing the state to prepare its witness statements and preserving the accused’s freedom.

The two other defendants, Mildred Donkor, a former bank relations officer for the couple, and Kwabena Adu-Boahen’s wife, Angela Adjei-Boateng, have been released on bail.

In court, Dr. Ayine also revealed that Ghana Water Limited is conducting independent investigations into Adu-Boahen, raising the possibility that the accused would be subject to more legal scrutiny in the weeks to come.

Adu-Boahen is scheduled to make another court appearance on Friday, May 9, 2025.
