Mr Ahmed Ibrahim, Member of Parliament for the Banda Constituency, has commissioned a new police station and bungalows for the Banda Boase community in the Banda District of the Bono Region.
The facility is made up of a charge office, cells, administrative offices, and four residential bungalows to accommodate police personnel.
Speaking to the media, as part of his thanksgiving tour to the communities in the area, Mr Ibrahim, also the minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, emphasized the importance of security in the area, especially due to the presence of the Bui Dam.
“We need a district police headquarters; we have competent personnel, but we face challenges with office space for the police and immigration services. The lack of official accommodation is something we are gradually addressing,” he added.
Deputy Superintendent of Police(DSP) Peter Owusu, the Banda District Commander, noted that the new station brings the total number of police stations in the district to three, joining those at Banda Ahenkro and Dorbor.
He said, until now, there was no police station between Banda Ahenkro and Banda Boase to Nsawkaw, therefore
This new facility will go a long way to improve security in the area.
DSP Owusu added that the station’s presence is timely, as recent intelligence reports indicated incidents of harassment along the road.
He stated, its strategic location will help to curb deviant behavior and restore order and discipline in the surrounding communities, saying, the station is there to serve everyone, therefore urging all residents to be law-abiding, because anyone who breaks the law will be held accountable.
Odeefour Dua-Bata-Bour Ligbi Wullotei II, Chief of Banda Boase, welcomed the project, saying the police station would significantly aid the community’s fight against crime and social vices.
“Over the past two years, we have experienced several robberies on our roads, even, just two weeks ago, robbers invaded the community and terrorised shop owners, he indicated.
Odeefour Wullotei II said that the long distance to the nearest station has allowed criminals to take advantage, especially targeting market women.
He encouraged the residents to see the police as allies, adding that the police were in the community to protect them and, therefore, urged the youth to cooperate with them and support their work in maintaining peace and order.
