Baba Jamal Won’t Get Majority Support if He Wins- Awal Mohammed

A member of the National Patriotic Party (NPP) Communications Team, Awal Mohammed, has disclosed that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) majority will not throw their support for their candidate, Baba Jamal.

The former Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria won the Ayawaso-East by-election with 431 votes after beating off competition from Hajia Amina Adam, who pulled 399, while Mohammed Ramme garnered 88, Dr. Yakubu Azindow had 45 votes, and Mohammed Najib had one vote.

It was reported there was alleged voting by Baba Jamal, but the lawyer debunked the news, saying it was only a gift to thank delegates for their continuous support.

However, the NDC, through its General Secretary Fii Kwetey, declared Baba Jamal the candidate for the Ayawaso East March 3 election after a 3-member committee probed into the alleged corruption allegations against Baba Jamal.

Speaking on Joy Prime, Awal Mohammed, who is a member of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign team, says the majority in parliament will turn their backs on Baba Jamal even if he emerges the winner.

“If Baba Jamal wins, he won’t get support from the majority,” he stated.

Baba Jamal on Wednesday, followed by a large crowd, filed his nomination, where he will battle it out with Yussif Baba Ali of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the vacant Ayawaso East seat slated for March 3.

The Ayawaso East seat became vacant following the death of the sitting Member of Parliament, Mahama Naser Toure, on January 4.
