Five academically brilliant but financially challenged students from the Akatsi South Municipality have been supported to access tertiary education through the Education for the Needy programme of the Atidefe Foundation.
The initiative, spearheaded by the Founder of the Foundation and Assembly Member for the Torve Electoral Area, Hon. Thomas Yao Atidefe, seeks to bridge the gap between academic excellence and financial hardship.
Under the 2025 phase of the programme, the beneficiaries have secured admission to the University of Ghana, Legon, and the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA).
Hon. Atidefe paid the students’ admission fees for the 2025/2026 academic year and committed to fully sponsoring their tuition throughout their period of study.
According to him, the intervention is based on the belief that education remains a critical tool for national development and social transformation.
Since the programme’s inception in 2014, a total of 11 students have benefited, with several now pursuing successful careers locally and internationally.
The beneficiaries and their parents expressed gratitude for the support during a visit to the campuses on December 15, 2025, noting that the assistance has offered them renewed hope and the opportunity to pursue their academic ambitions.
