Assent the Affirmative Action Bill – Women’s Rights Organizations cries to Akufo-Addo

Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) advocating for women’s rights in Ghana have commended Parliament for passing the Affirmative Action Gender Equity Bill, 2024—a legislation aimed at increasing women’s participation in governance and decision-making.

The groups described the bill as a game changer and explained that, when enacted, it would boost female education and participation in governance.

In an interview with the media in Techiman, Mr. Mustapha Mason Yeboah, Executive Director of the Community and Population Impact Organization, explained that the bill would protect women’s dignity and remove barriers to their full potential.

In a joint statement, the groups urged President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to expedite the process of enacting the bill into law, emphasizing its potential to bridge the nation’s gender divide and empower women socio-economically.

Among these groups were Abantu for Development, the Community Development and Advocacy Centre (CODAC), the Social Welfare and Development Association (SWIDA), and the Women’s Media and Communication Organization (WOMEC).
