The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has said that the President John Mahama-led NDC government is set to commence some key projects in the Ashanti Region in the 1st quarter of 2026.
In a Facebook post, Dr. Amoakohene said the projects are “strategically distributed to address critical infrastructure gaps in education, health, and local development.”
According to him, there will soon be sod cutting for “some seventy-seven (77) GETFund projects and over three hundred (300) District Assemblies Common Fund projects” across the region.
“We shall also cut sod for key flagship road projects under the Big Push initiative, including:
• Outer Kumasi Ring Road
• Ahodwo–Santasi Dualisation
• Accra–Kumasi Expressway
• Agogo–Maame Krobo Road, spanning approximately 124 kilometres
• Selected town roads across priority urban and peri-urban areas
These projects are designed to improve mobility, reduce travel time, enhance safety, and unlock economic activity across the Ashanti Region and beyond.” – he started.

HIGHLIGHTS:
STATE OF THE REGION ADDRESS – ASHANTI
2026, First Quarter in Perspective
What to Expect in the First Quarter of the Year 2026!
The first quarter of the year marks a decisive transition from stabilization to accelerated delivery. Having laid a solid foundation in the previous year, our focus now shifts firmly to implementation, expansion, and visible progress across the region.
Under the leadership of H.E John Dramani Mahama, with Ashanti Region at heart and determined to create a vibrant economic hub for the country and sub region, these are the key priorities for the First Quarter
In this quarter, Government will concentrate on four core actions:
1. Cutting sod for new projects
2. Awarding additional projects
3. Commencing construction on newly awarded projects
4. Continuing and completing ongoing legacy projects
Cutting Sod for New Projects
A major highlight of the quarter will be the commencement of a significant number of new developments across all districts. This includes the cutting of sod for some seventy-seven (77) GETFund projects and over three hundred (300) District Assemblies Common Fund projects, strategically distributed to address critical infrastructure gaps in education, health, and local development.
Big Push Road Infrastructure Programme
We shall also cut sod for key flagship road projects under the Big Push initiative, including:
• Outer Kumasi Ring Road
• Ahodwo–Santasi Dualisation
• Accra–Kumasi Expressway
• Agogo–Maame Krobo Road, spanning approximately 124 kilometres
• Selected town roads across priority urban and peri-urban areas
These projects are designed to improve mobility, reduce travel time, enhance safety, and unlock economic activity across the Ashanti Region and beyond.
Context, Our First Year of Work
The year 2025 was deliberately dedicated to addressing legacy challenges. It focused on stalled and abandoned projects, as well as securing sustainable funding for their completion under the 2026 Budget.
Key legacy and priority projects addressed and ongoing include the VAMED Hospitals, Agenda 111 Hospitals, Suame Interchange, Sewua Hospital, Afari Hospital, KNUST Medical Centre, Krofrom Market, Kejetia Market Phase 2, Phase 4 of the Prempeh I international airpor, and the KATH Maternity Block.
Emergency and Rapid-Response Interventions
Alongside legacy works, Government executed critical emergency interventions to protect lives and restore connectivity. These included the Kaase Bridge, Kotokuom Bridge, Jacobu Bridge, and the Airport Roundabout Kumasi.
In addition, several town roads were completed or advanced in areas such as Kwabre East, Offinso–Barekese Road, and Manhyia North.
Looking Ahead
While addressing immediate challenges, Government simultaneously invested time and effort in, planning, and awarding new projects under the 2026 Budget framework. The result is a strong pipeline of funded projects now ready for execution.
The first quarter therefore represents the beginning of large-scale, coordinated delivery. Our commitment remains clear, to translate plans into action, budgets into projects, and projects into tangible improvements in the lives of our people.
