Barcelona forward Ansu Fati has completed a season-long loan move to French side AS Monaco ahead of the 2025–26 campaign, the Spanish club has confirmed.

As part of the arrangement, Fati has also extended his contract with Barça until the end of the 2027–28 season. The deal includes an option for Monaco to make the transfer permanent next summer, depending on his performance in Ligue 1.

Sources told ESPN that the 22-year-old was drawn to the opportunity to compete in France’s top flight and feature in the UEFA Champions League, both seen as key to reigniting a career that has stalled due to limited playing time and past injuries.

Under manager Hansi Flick last season, Fati made just 11 appearances for Barcelona, starting only three matches and logging a total of 297 minutes.

Once hailed as the next big star after his explosive debut as a 16-year-old in 2019, Fati’s rise was hampered by recurring injuries. He spent the 2023–24 season on loan at Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion, where he scored four goals in 27 appearances.

Fati has tallied 29 goals in 123 games for Barcelona and holds the record as the youngest goalscorer in UEFA Champions League history, netting at just 17 years and 40 days.

Internationally, he has earned 10 caps and scored two goals for Spain, though he has not featured for La Roja since 2023.
