Ex-Ghanaian international, Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu has advised Coach Otto Addo to deploy Manchester City new signing, Antoine Semenyo as a winger.
According to him, playing Semenyo on the flanks will yield more results as the player will flourish, rather than assigning him to play as a number nine.
Badu who recently joined Ghana Premier League side Aduana Stars as the International Relations Manager believes the technical team of the Black Stars can get the best out of him as his blistering form for the Citizens in the English Premiership can be replicated if he operates from the flanks and rather than a typical number nine.
Speaking in an interview with Kumasi-based Akoma FM, the U-20 World Cup winner said
“Semenyo is not a natural number 9, and we should stop forcing him into that role. He is more effective on the wings, just as Man City are currently using him,” he said.
He argued that, currently on the international scene, he is Ghana’s poster boy and must be played in his preferred position.
“He is our poster boy at the moment, and the coach must play him in his preferred position so we can get the very best out of him,” he told Akoma FM.
Semenyo crossed paths to join Manchester City from Bournemouth in a deal worth £64 million, signing a five-and-a-half-year contract in January 2026.
The 26-year-old has hit the ground running with two goals in three games for his new side.
He fetched a goal in the EPL cup and also scored one in two league appearances.
Before he joined City, he bagged 10 goals in 20 games for the Cherries, and 11 in 37 games during the 2024/25 campaign.
Since making his debut in 2022 for the Black Stars during an African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier, he has made 32 caps and scored three goals for Ghana.
With his fine form, he has been tipped by many to be one of the standout players for Ghana during the 2026 FIFA World Cup tournament.
