The Zongo Youth Movement has warned New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful Kennedy Agyapong to keep his campaign out of Zongo and Muslim communities. The group’s call follows controversial remarks allegedly made by a member of Agyapong’s campaign team.
The statement comes in response to comments by Dr. Stephen Amoah, also known as Sticka. He reportedly claimed that the NPP lost the 2024 elections because former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is Muslim.
Speaking to Citi News, Abdullai Ali, Public Relations Officer of the Zongo Youth Movement, condemned the remarks as dangerous and divisive. He said the group is demanding a public apology from both Dr. Amoah and Kennedy Agyapong.
“It is not unfair to associate these remarks with Kennedy Agyapong’s camp,” Ali stated. “After the comments were made, no one from his team came forward to disown or condemn them. Some members defended the claim on TV and radio using misleading data.”
He added that the silence from Agyapong’s team signals approval. “If Kennedy Agyapong had issued a statement distancing himself from the remarks, we would have focused only on Dr. Amoah. But the silence from his camp speaks volumes.”
The group insists that political campaigns must respect national unity and Ghana’s tradition of religious tolerance.
