President of Zambia, Hakainde Hichilema, says he has tasked his team to order more Fugu, a traditional Ghanaian outfit, into the country.
This was met with social media backlash and abuse by Zambians who mocked the outfit worn by President Mahama during a recent public appearance in Zambia.
With no remorse for their actions, Zambians described the outfit as a ‘blouse,’ as most suggested, but it is a revered Ghanaian traditional garment known as Fugu, also widely referred to as Batakari.
Addressing Zambians and Ghanaians during a recent gathering, President Hichilema says he is happy Ghana’s Foreign Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, is dressed in Fugu, ordering his team to post on all platforms because they are associated and would want to have more of Fugu.
“I am very happy that the foreign minister is dressed like this. I have asked my team to post on all platforms that we are associated with that Zambia will be ordering more of that stuff,” he said.
President Mahama and other top government officials left Ghana for Zambia on Wednesday, February 4, for a 3-day tour.
The tour seeks to establish bilateral talks aimed at strengthening diplomatic relations, enhancing trade and investment cooperation, and exploring collaborative opportunities within the framework of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
President Mahama and his team are expected to arrive in Ghana on Friday, February 6.
